On July 22, 2024, the Research Association ForFamily introduced itself to the public and engaged in discussions with a highly interested audience. Over 90 guests, including representatives from more than 30 institutions in family support, administration, and academia, filled the Internationale Begegnungszentrum der Wissenschaft München to capacity.
Following the introduction by the co-speakers, Prof. Paula-Irene Villa Braslavsky and Prof. Rita Braches-Chyrek, who outlined the goals and approach of the interdisciplinary association, several ForFamily projects were introduced in brief presentations. Particularly engaging was the interactive chatting phase, where guests exchanged ideas and recorded them on a whiteboard. These reflections provided valuable input for the subsequent discussions, which continued even during the break at standing tables and in front of posters of the projects. The diverse suggestions and questions will now be incorporated into further research efforts.
Of particular interest was the panel discussion featuring experts Alexandra Schreiner-Hirsch (Child Protection Association in Bavaria), Prof. Dr. Barbara Thiessen (University of Bielefeld), and Kristina Weber (BR Podcast “Eltern ohne Filter”). Kristina Weber emphasized the importance of early exchange about research findings and pointed out that family also exists in the digital space – a research topic unfortunately not represented in the association. Alexandra Schreiner-Hirsch highlighted the relevance of research findings for practical application, while Prof. Dr. Barbara Thiessen contributed critical academic perspectives.
The event ended in a relaxed atmosphere with snacks and drinks. The poster exhibition, in particular, offered participants the opportunity to engage with ForFamily members and exchange ideas. We would like to express our deep gratitude to all the speakers and participants for their valuable contributions. We look forward to continued collaboration – at the latest during our mid-term event requested by the audience. If you have any questions or are interested, feel free to contact the coordination office.
